1999 Inaugural Ceremony.
The first Mkiva Humanitarian Award was presented to President Nelson Mandela in 1999 on the occasion of his retirement ceremony at his home in Qunu Village, near Mthatha.
The Award, GLOBAL CHAMPION FOR PEOPLE’S FREEDOM, was presented by Gwebindlala Godfrey Mkiva, the founder of the Mkiva Humanitarian Foundation.
Dr Nelson Mandela accepted this award in person.

Comrade Fidel Castro dedicated his life to fight for freedom for all the people in the world.
He stood his ground against imperialism despite the economic sanction against his country, Cuba.
All the freedom loving people of the world must salute and thank Fidel Castro for his role in the struggle against colonialism and imperialism.
